This year was one of the most transformative in MacrosFirst's history. From expanding the depth of our food and nutrient data to increasing the range of insights available across the app, 2025 was all about helping you see more than just calories and macros.

We invested in features such as Micronutrient Reporting, Core Foods, and deeper insights to support a wide range of goals, from weight loss to performance to long-term health. These continued improvements are made possible by the support of our users, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who makes MacrosFirst part of their journey.

Here’s a look back at everything we released this year, and what made it our biggest year yet.

Micronutrient Reporting and the New Nutrients Dashboard

Micronutrient Reporting added a new layer of insight beyond tracking calories and macros. With this update, you can track more than 50 vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and other key nutrients. The update included detailed daily breakdowns for each nutrient, interactive charts to visualize trends, top sources to show exactly where nutrients were coming from, and the ability to pin any nutrient to the Dashboard for quick access.

Automatic daily targets informed by U.S. and European health guidelines were added, along with the option to set custom micronutrient targets if you prefer to personalize minimums, goals, or maximums. This made it easy to track using automatic, science-backed targets or adjust micronutrient goals to better match your individual needs.

To support all of these new capabilities, the Nutrients section was added to the Dashboard, creating a central place to explore full micronutrient profiles with greater depth and visibility.

Together, these updates positioned MacrosFirst as one of the most complete nutrition tracking apps available, delivering a comprehensive view of both macro and micronutrient intake.

Food Layout Customization

Layout Customization became one of the most requested improvements from our community, so we built this feature directly based on their feedback. These tools allow you to personalize the look and feel of your food log to better match your tracking style.

You can choose show or hide food icons for a more visual or more minimal layout, adjust text size and alignment for improved readability, and enable colored macros for quicker at-a-glance visibility. Each option is designed to give you more control over how information is displayed and to create a log that feels intuitive to navigate.

Whether a user prefers bold visuals or a clean, simple interface, these customization options make it easier to set up MacrosFirst in a way that works best for them.

Faster Food Logging

Food logging became faster and easier with improvements that streamlined how entries are logged and edited in the Daily Journal. This update delivered a smoother, more flexible experience by keeping everything in one place, eliminating the need to switch between screens to make adjustments.

You can enter and edit portions, review and update serving units, and use the auto-serving size calculator to adjust portions based on nutrient targets. Any nutrient can be tapped to auto-calculate serving sizes using protein, carbs, fat, calories, or even micronutrients. It also became possible to swipe through serving units or pin favorite serving units, so they appear at the top for quicker access.

These improvements make everyday tracking noticeably faster and more intuitive. Logging food now requires fewer taps, less navigation, and far less effort, helping you stay consistent throughout the day.

Core Foods

Core Foods brings a new level of depth and accuracy to food search in MacrosFirst. This section within food search helps users quickly identify foods with the most complete nutrient profiles available, making it easier to go beyond the limitations of standard nutrition labels.

Core Foods highlights over 28,000 lab-tested foods with the most complete nutrition data available. While a typical nutrition label lists around 14 nutrients, foods in the Core Foods section provide access to all 57 nutrients tracked in MacrosFirst. Because these foods are based on laboratory-tested values rather than rounded label data, they offer greater precision and help fill in nutrient gaps, especially if you're focused on micronutrient tracking or deeper nutrition analysis.

Improved Water Tracking

Water tracking received a major upgrade, bringing hydration into the same detailed and flexible experience as the rest of MacrosFirst. You now have multiple ways to log hydration, including a new dedicated Water section within the Daily Journal, making it easy to add water throughout the day.

MacrosFirst also became one of the only nutrition trackers to let you choose how hydration is tracked. You can choose to track only the water you drink, include water naturally found in foods, or use both methods depending on your preferences. This flexibility allows hydration tracking to better reflect how you want to measure your intake.

For the first time, logged water entries can be edited or deleted, giving you full control over hydration data and removing a long-standing limitation of the feature. Water tracking is now completely free for all users, opening up detailed hydration tracking to everyone.

For deeper insight, hydration data can now be viewed in the Nutrients section on the Dashboard, where you can explore interactive charts, track trends over time, view top water sources, and set personalized water targets.

Home Screen Widgets

Home screen widgets make it easier than ever to track with MacrosFirst without opening the app. Available on both iOS and Android, widgets let you access key tracking tools directly from your home screen. With a quick glance, you can log foods, track macros or any nutrient of your choice, record body weight, and view daily progress.

Dark Mode + Tinted App Icons

Dark Mode and tinted app icons add more ways to personalize your MacrosFirst experience. With full Dark Mode support, you can track more comfortably at night or in low-light environments. Tinted app icons added an extra layer of personalization, making it easier to align the app with the look and feel of your home screen.

Updated Macro Calculator and Goal Controls

The Calculate My Macros feature in the Goals tab was improved to give you greater control over how macro targets are created and adjusted. After calculating your macros, you can fine-tune targets by editing macros using either percentages or grams, making it easier to personalize recommendations.

You can also specify a desired rate of weight loss or gain, allowing macro and calorie recommendations to better align with your individual goals. Adjusting the rate of change helps create plans that feel more realistic, sustainable, and tailored to how you want to approach nutrition.

Together, these updates made the macro calculation process more flexible and precise.

A Year Powered by You

More than anything, this year was driven by your feedback, your enthusiasm, and your dedication to building healthier habits. Every feature on this list exists because of you and our passionate, detail-oriented, incredibly engaged community.

We’re grateful for every message, request, test, and suggestion you’ve shared. Whether that feedback came through submitted feature requests, conversations in the MacrosFirst App Community on Facebook, or discussions in the MacrosFirst subreddit, it helps us make MacrosFirst not just one of the most accurate tracking apps on the market, but one of the most useful.

And trust us, we’re just getting started.

We have some truly game-changing updates coming next year, including new tools to make tracking even faster, smarter, and more personalized. We can’t wait to show you what’s next.

Thank you for an incredible year, and for choosing MacrosFirst to guide your nutrition journey!
